New Focus Issue Published: Metabolic alterations in heart failure

In this Focus issue written by members of the EU-METAHEART collaboration, the authors explore the various ways in which metabolism is alterated in heart failure with either reduced or preserved ejection fraction.

The Reviews cover intermediary metabolism in the heart, vascular (dys)function, immunometabolism and mechano-energetic uncoupling. By providing a deeper understanding of the metabolic alterations and mitochondrial dysfunction that occur in various forms of heart failure, novel therapeutic targets for drug development can be identified to improve the treatment of patients.
